Talking stick.

In my classes we practice honoring and listening to what others have to say. As the kids get older- we have more discussions and some kids have more to share than others. I’ve spent a good amount of time in my adult life in ‘ceremonial’ settings where we pass a talking stick around and whoever is speaking holds the stick. Several months ago I started incorporating this into my teaching ‘tweens’. Most Tweens are eager to speak and share their voices- so the talking stick is working really well and every week the kids say ‘let’s get the talking stick out.’ So I made this foil looking one on a whim, but there are plenty of ways to create a talking stick.
What is the meaning behind a talking stick?
